Step 1: Boil sugar and water until thick to make syrup, then cool completely.

Step 2: Tear or slice the cheese and press between paper towels to remove moisture.

Step 3: Cut katayif into small pieces and mix with melted butter. Preheat the oven to 350°F and brush a 12-inch pan with melted butter.

Step 4: Spread half the buttered katayif in the pan, pressing firmly to form a base and walls. Then, evenly distribute the torn mozzarella over the katayif.

Step 5: Once baked, pour the cooled syrup evenly over the hot kunafa to ensure it absorbs and becomes sweet and moist.
