This Easy Irish Soda Bread comes together in less than one hour and is perfect for breakfast. You can make it in different variations by adding different seeds and dried fruit.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 cups AP flour
  • ½ tablespoon baking soda
  • ½ tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon old fashioned oats
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with a parchment paper.
  • Mix milk and lemon juice in a bowl, set aside for 10 minutes.
  • Mix the rest of the ingredients in a bowl and make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients mixture.
  • Pour the milk and lemon juice into the mixture and start stirring with a wooden spoon until it forms a dough.
  • Take the dough onto a floured surface and and knead for 2-3 minutes. Form it into a ball and place it on the baking sheet.
  • Using a knife, cut a ¼ inch X on the dough. Sprinkle some old fashioned oats and sesame seeds.
  • Bake in the oven for 45 or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean and the crust is golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven, let cool for 15 minutes and then cut into desired slices.

Notes

If you have a Dutch oven, or any oven safe deep pot, use it instead of baking sheet for better result.
