This post is sponsored by Premio Foods. All opinions are mine.

    Why this recipe works

    • Quick to make: As in ready in 20 minutes quick! That includes chopping the veggies, sautéing and cooking! I'm not even kidding: you can put a delicious dinner on the table in no time and everyone will ask for seconds.
    • Uses pantry staples: You only need a few ingredients to make this recipe and you can totally use store-bought marinara sauce if that's what you have on hand.
    • Customizable: This recipe uses green bell peppers, but you can use other vegetables as well.

We made this delicious one pot pasta using Premio Foods sweet Italian chicken sausage. This Italian sausage pasta recipe is definitely a keeper. I've included stove top and oven instructions as well in case you don't own an instant pot.

This Italian sausage pasta recipe is perfect for family dinner.

    Ingredients

To make a tasty one pot sausage pasta you need the following ingredients:

    • Pasta: I used rottini to make this recipe, however, penne or bow tie pasta would work perfectly. I have not tried this recipe with spaghetti yet.
    • Sausage: My favorite is Italian chicken sausage. It has less fat and is very delicious.
    • Onion and garlic: Every delicious dish starts with sautéing onion and garlic in some olive oil and this one is no exception.
    • Bell pepper: I love bell peppers in pasta because of their flavor. You can use any color bell pepper.
    • Crushed tomatoes: To make this pasta taste so fresh and have enough liquid to make it creamy, we use crushed tomatoes.
    • Spices: Since the sausage has a lot of flavor on its own, you just need a bit of thyme and paprika for this recipe.
    • Chicken broth and water: To cook the pasta in instant pot, you can use chicken broth and water (or just one of them).
    • Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese: I love stirring some fresh mozzarella in pasta at the very end. It makes the pasta extra delicious and creamy. Parmesan is used to top the pasta.
To make Italian sausage and peppers pasta you need pasta, mozzarella, garlic, onion, tomatoes, spoices and sausage and pepper.

    Instant pot instructions

    Cook the onion and sausage

Start with sautéing chopped onion, garlic and bell pepper in a bit of oil. Add in sausage and cook until it's brown.

To make Instant pot pasta saute onion, garlic, bell pepper and sausage the add tomatoes, pasta and broth.

    Cook the pasta

Once the sausage is cooked, add is pasta and crushed tomatoes. Stir well and add in chicken broth. Cook on high pressure for only five minutes and your pasta is ready!

Once you've added the broth to the pasta let it cook for five minutes then stir in mozzarella and parsley.

Pretty quick and easy, right? You can either serve your pasta right away or add mozzarella to the sausage pasta and stir well. Serve in bowls once the mozzarella cheese is melted and top with a lot of Parmesan cheese and some parsley. This is a favorite family comfort food made in no time!

    Stove top instructions

No instant pot, no problem! Here's how to make stove top sausage pasta:

    • Saute onion, belle pepper and garlic in a large pot over medium heat.
    • Add in spices and Italian chicken sausage. Brown the sausage.
    • Add in pasta, crushed tomatoes and chicken broth. Bring it to simmer.
    • Cover and cook for about twenty to thirty minutes until the water is absorbed and the pasta is cooked.
    • Stir in mozzarella and top with Parmesan.
This Italian sausage pasta is great with some extra mozzarella.

    Oven instructions

You can also make a sausage pasta bake which is pretty simple:

    • Preheat the oven to 375ºF.
    • Cook pasta according to the instructions on the packaging.
    • Saute onion, bell peppers and garlic in some olive oil over medium heat.
    • Brown sausage with the vegetables and spices.
    • Add crushed tomatoes to the sausage mixture and stir in the pasta.
    • Transfer everything to an oven safe dish and top with mozzarella cheese.
    • Bake for 30 minutes and serve warm.

This Italian sausage and peppers pasta is one of my favorite dishes to make during the week because it's easy, simple and my whole family loves it. I bet you will love it too!

    Variations

You can add different ingredients to the sausage sauce for pasta such as spinach, broccoli, peas, mushrooms or kale. Add any of these ingredients to the sausage sauce after you browned the sausage and right before adding the crushed tomatoes.

    Storing leftovers

You can store the leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days. I don't recommend freezing this dish since it might lose its texture and flavor.

Yes 🙂 You can break them just like you do with ground beef.

Hi Amy, I have not tried it with frozen links so I'm not sure. I would probably thaw them before adding them.

I feel like the liquid component is too much for an instant pot, my pasta end up looking like a soup more than a creamy pasta... i feel like 14 oz crushed tomatoes could haven been 12 and only 2 cups chicken broth no water would have made more a sauce. We have to consider that there is much less need of liquid in an instant pot recipe. I made another recipe before for 8 oz pasta and there was two cups total liquid. Plus tomatoe dauce and it came out perfect
