Fresh and simple salads are a staple across Mediterranean kitchens, and a good dressing makes all the difference. And let me tell you, nothing beats homemade dressings ready in 5 minutes and made with a handful of real ingredients! Some of my favorite dressings are Greek salad dressing, creamy feta dressing, and Greek yogurt avocado dressing.

I always have a jar of this Mediterranean salad dressing in the fridge since it goes well with many salads including cucumber tomato feta salad and Middle Eastern chopped salad.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Quick and easy: Just mix a few pantry staples — ready in minutes!

Fresh and flavorful: Similar to Greek Ladolemono, the bright flavors of lemon lemon, rich olive oil, and aromatic herbs shine in every bite.

Customizable: Adjust the sweetness, garlic, or herbs to match your taste.

Ingredients

Olive Oil: Use high-quality extra virgin olive oil for the best flavor. It adds a rich, fruity base to the dressing.

Lemon Juice: Always use fresh lemon juice for a bright, zesty flavor.

Salt: Enhances all the flavors and brings everything together.

Oregano: Adds a warm, earthy, and slightly peppery flavor to the dressing.

Garlic Powder: Infuses a mellow, savory garlic flavor that blends smoothly.

Onion Powder: Adds a subtle sweetness and depth without overpowering the other ingredients.

Honey: A touch of honey balances the acidity from the lemon without making the dressing sweet. You can leave out the honey if you don’t want it.

How To Make Mediterranean Salad Dressing

Step 1: Combine the Ingredients

In a mason jar with a tight-fitting lid, add olive oil, freshly squeezed lemon juice, salt, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, and honey.

Step 2: Mix Well

Seal the lid and shake until the dressing is smooth and blended. Taste the dressing and adjust the seasoning if needed.

Step 4: Store

Transfer the dressing to a clean jar or container and refrigerate. It will keep well for up to 2 weeks—just give it a good shake before using, as natural separation may occur. If the olive oil becomes solid, just leave the jar at room temperature for an hour or so.

Serving Suggestions

This Mediterranean dressing is incredibly versatile and brings a fresh, tangy flavor to many salad recipes.

Drizzle it over crisp salads like Mediterranean cucumber salad, Greek pasta salad, or chickpea salad with feta for a quick boost of flavor.

Variations

Add fresh herbs: Stir in some chopped fresh parsley, mint, or basil for an extra pop of freshness.

Swap the citrus: Instead of fresh lemons, try red wine vinegar or white wine vinegar for a different but equally bright flavor.

Adjust the sweetness: If you prefer a sweeter dressing, you can add a bit more honey or swap it out with maple syrup or agave.

Recipe Tips

Use fresh lemon juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice gives the dressing a bright acidity and a refreshing zing compared to bottled juice. I don’t recommend bottled lemon juice because it tastes flat or overly acidic.

Let it sit for better flavor: After mixing, let the dressing rest for 15 to 30 minutes before serving. This gives the ingredients time to come together and makes the flavor even better.

Serve at room temperature: This dressing tastes best at room temperature. If you’ve stored it in the fridge, just take it out 5 to 10 minutes before serving and give it a good shake.

Storage Tips

Store the Mediterranean salad dressing in a sealed jar or bottle in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Give it a good shake or stir before each use to bring all the flavors back together. Keep in mid that the olive oil might solidify in the refrigerator, in that case, simply leave the dressing at room temperature for an hour or so and then shake it before serving.

I don’t recommend freezing this dressing as it would affect the texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it necessary to refrigerate the dressing?

Yes, because it contains fresh lemon juice, it’s best to refrigerate it and always shake it before using.

Can I make this dressing without honey?

Absolutely! Honey simply balances the acidity, but you can leave it out or substitute it with a little maple syrup or agave.

Can I add fresh garlic instead of garlic powder?

Yes, you can grate a small clove garlic instead of using powder for a more intense garlic flavor.
