Give your chocolate milkshake a makeover with the addition of peanut butter. It's creamy, rich and ready in 5 minutes - perfect for any day of the week!

This is the best chocolate milkshake recipe for your summer!

We are obsessed with milkshakes this summer and even have a complete tutorial on how to make a milkshake. Our favorites include our banana milkshake, strawberry milkshake and, of course, a classic vanilla milkshake. However, this chocolate milkshake made with peanut butter has a truly unique flavor profile and we love it!

    Ingredients

chocolate milkshake ingredients are chocolate ice cream, hot fudge sauce, milk and peanut butter

To make this delicious chocolate shake, you need just a few ingredients:

    1. Ice cream: I love using chocolate ice cream for this recipe because it goes so well with peanut butter.
    2. Hot fudge sauce: I love how thick and tasty hot fudge sauce is and it adds so much flavor to the milkshake. You can either make homemade hot fudge sauce or use a store bought sauce.
    3. Milk: I used whole milk but any other kind of milk (such as almond milk) would work. If you want the milkshake to be extra creamy, high fat milk works best.
    4. Peanut Butter: A couple tablespoons of creamy peanut butter takes this milkshake to a new level!

    Instructions

If you enjoy having cold, delicious milkshakes and you are a chocolate lover, this one is for you. The combination of peanut butter and chocolate is always a winner!

    Freeze the glasses

Place the milkshake glasses in the freezer for about 15 to 20 minutes so they're super cold. This will prevent the milkshake from melting quickly.

    Make the milkshake

Let the ice cream soften just a little bit. Add it to the blender with milk, peanut butter and hot fudge sauce. Blend for about one minute until creamy.

    Serve

Take the glasses out of the freezer and drizzle hot fudge sauce on the edges. Divide the milkshake between the glasses and top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and more peanut butter.

Pro tip: If you like your milkshake to be extra chocolate-y, use chocolate milk instead of regular milk. It will make the chocolate milkshake extra creamy and chocolate-y!

This chocolate shake recipe is perfect for any day of the year, especially hot summer days.

    A healthier version

You can make this recipe a bit lighter by using chocolate frozen yogurt instead of chocolate ice cream. Using non fat or dairy free milk would also cut the calories. Leave the hot fudge sauce out and use a teaspoon of cocoa powder instead.

    Thickening up the milkshake

You can add a cup of crushed ice to this chocolate shake recipe to make it thick. The combination of ice and frozen ice cream makes a milkshake pretty thick. Be sure not to over-blend the milkshake so it keeps its thickness.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I make this recipe dairy-free?

Yes. Simply use dairy free milk such as almond milk or cashew milk and use non-dairy ice cream.

    What are other flavor variations?

You can jazz things up by using almond butter instead of peanut butter or add a drizzle of caramel syrup for more flavor. You can also add a banana to have a banana chocolate milkshake.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Unfortunately milkshakes don't keep their texture and flavor for a long time therefore its best to make and serve them right away.
