Ingredients to make this recipe

To make caramel brownies, you need:

  • Butter
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Granulated sugar and brown sugar
  • Eggs
  • All purpose flour
  • Caramel sauce

To make homemade brownies with caramel you need butter, chocolate, sugars, eggs, flour and caramel sauce.

What kind of caramel should I use for these brownies?

Recipes around the internet work with both caramel candies and caramel sauce. For these brownies, I used my homemade caramel sauce recipe which I had at hand but we will go through baking brownies with both the sauce and the candies.

How to make caramel brownies from scratch

Start with preheating the oven and coating an 8×8 baking pan with cooking spray and line with a parchment paper. Then melt butter and chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and whisk in the sugars. Next, add eggs to the melted butter and chocolate mixture and mix very well for about five minutes. Then add the flour and combine well.

Add the eggs to the melted butter and chocolate mixture.

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and pour the caramel sauce on top of the batter. Using a knifer, swirl the caramel and bake in the oven for about 23 minutes until the edges are set and the center is just a little soft.

How to make brownies with caramel candies

This is a different approach to make chocolate caramel brownies which is really tasty and super easy as well:

  • Unwrap ten ounces of KRAFT caramel and place them in a sauce pan with 1/3 cup evaporated milk over medium heat. Stir constantly until the caramels are melted. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Melt butter and chocolate chips in a bowl.
  • Add in brown and granulated sugar to the melted butter mixture and mix well.
  • Add in eggs one after another and combine well.
  • Mix in the flour and pour the batter into the prepare baking pan.
  • Pour melted caramel on the brownies and swirl with a knife.
  • Bake in the oven for 25 minutes until the edges are set. Let cool completely before slicing.

This caramel brownie recipe is easy and makes fudgy brownies.

Can I freeze these brownies?

Yes! All brownies freeze very well. Wrap the brownie slices individually in plastic wraps or foil and freeze for up to three months. To eat, unwrap the brownies and place them on a plate and refrigerate them overnight.

Slice chocolate caramel brownies once they are completely cooled.

Notes and tips to make this recipe

  • You can use salted caramel sauce or candies to make salted caramel brownies.
  • It’s very important to mix the brownie batter very well. You want every bit of sugar and flour completely mixed in within the batter.
  • For caramel pecan brownies add 1/2 cup chopped pecans to the brownie batter.
  • Be sure not to overcook homemade brownies. To make sure that the brownies are cooked enough, check after twenty minutes of baking. You’re looking for set edges and a semi soft center (not raw).
  • These brownies will be so good with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, drizzled with more caramel sauce!

Caramel brownies are the perfect snack!
